Hanging out

After about 2 weeks of level 1 English (and Mari-Lize), Beto (from Brazil) is hanging on.....literally.......

All for one and one for all

We as teachers/staff realize our complete dependence on the Lord for this term and one thing we truly need and have is UNITY.....Jesus' prayer for His disciples and for us in John 17 comes to mind.....to be of one mind and one heart......

If you're happy and you know it.....

One thing we try to cultivate and encourage in our school is JOY......the verse that comes to mind is in Nehemiah - "let the JOY of the Lord be your strength...."

face-off

This is the EXACT facial expression of some of our level 1 students on the 1st day of class....if you think this is scary, you should see their teacher's face.......

Crazy/beautiful

This is what Level 4 and Bri (the level 4 teacher) does to you after you've finished.....crazy doesn't even come close.......

Ocean Basket

The level 1's had an oral where they had to role play a restaurant scene - this is how they decorated their door, which i think looked sooo cute - the other photo is of them in the class listening to Mar-Lize and getting ready to 'perform' and then there's Moises, by far the most interesting waiter you'll find this side of Brazil !!!

Higher

sometimes..........well, i guess English just gets too much and some students need 'outside' help........

Splash

Mar-Lize took her Level 1 class for a swim, but then the Brazilians, (which means the whole class), told her they were afraid of water......hhhmmmmmmmm........i guess splashing is the next best thing then........here Raniere, Moises, Fabio, Israel, Daniela, Christiane, Nair and Mar-Lize are enjoying the moment......

Snowflake

Our school leader, Emily Beliles, from the USA......a great example and excellent leader, we love and respect her very much......she is doing a great job in running the school and teaching the other teachers what a "continental" accent really means......thanks for who you are, we really love you !!!!!

Did you feel the mountains tremble....

On Friday mornings we have worship and one morning, we went to a lady's farm to have our worship there, almost in the shadows of these amazing mountains - it was awesome to stand in nature and drink in the beauty all around.......to just worship the Lord for Who He is in our lives and for the works of His hands.....

Greetings

Here are some examples of the cards the students made and WOW, i almost got tears in my eyes, because they really put their hearts into it and what is the most satisfying is the fact that they did it all in ENGLISH !!! May the families and children who will receive your cards, truly be blessed and encouraged.....we are proud of you !

English is.....

whoever said learning English was boring, was seriously wrong.........Boaz proving the point, see !!

Level 3 rocks !

Level 3 had the same assignment, to write cards or letters to children and families in closed countries - they had some snacks while they were working and made beautiful cards and used their English to bless and encourage other Christians.....here Livia Rosa, Livia Soares, Mila Ane-Mary, Luciano and Boaz are totally into their

projects... thanks guys !!!!

Writing campaign

Last term, we decided to put Level 4's English efficiency to the test - so they made encouragement cards and wrote letters to some children and families in closed countries whose lives have been touched by persecution - as you can see, they were totally into the whole thing and i have to admit, it was one of my most memorable lessons with them......they made THE most beautiful cards and letters and in the process, used their English to bless someone else, which was the point of the whole excercise...... here Vivi, Sandra, Patricia and Monica are hard at work........

School photo

This is a school photo of our last term of 2009....we went to Slanghoek and it was such a beautiful day, with the mountains and vineyards all around.....

The front door to your future....

For those who have forgotten or who don't know what our front door looks like, well here it is !! In Korean, Portuguese and Chinese and.....(not sure actually....)

2010 !!

A new year, a new term and a LOT of new students !! Wow, we are really blessed to have about 43 students at the ELS this term, with most from South Korea and Brazil, one from Egypt, one from Germany, one from South Africa (a first), one from the Congo and a couple from Angola. Our classrooms, which seem so small last term, now seem to burst, with Level 1 and 2 having 12 and 10 students respectively. Level 3 has 4 students and Level 4 has 10 !! And to top all that, 6 more students are coming next week !! We as teachers are very excited about the term with all the different challenges ahead of us !! In Psalm 126:3 it says that the Lord has done great things for us and we really stand on that for the 3 months ahead, that He will do in and through us what we cannot !! And that His joy will be our strength through it all. Have to say, it is difficult to have joy when the temperature outside is a wopping 45 degrees Celsius !!
Well, photos will be coming very soon so you can see our school and all our students. God bless you, bye for now.
